2010 Kids Count Data Book: Wisconsin Kids Fare Better Overall, But Challenges Remain

Wisconsin squeezed into the top 10 overall in the Casey Foundation's state-by-state rankings of child well-being. But this year's Kids Count Data Book also highlights the need to sustain our momentum in areas where we have seen progress, and renew our efforts in those areas where much improvement is still needed.

W-2 Caseload Trends in a Time of High Unemployment

Wisconsin has lost a lot of jobs during the recession, and while the W-2 caseload has seen a corresponding increase, it has not grown as much as one would expect, and not as much as other support programs have. In this article, we examine this phenomenon.

Where have all the Children Gone (and what should we do next in response)?

The number of youth confined in Wisconsin's residential juvenile correctional facilities has dropped sharply in recent years? This has happened as a result of both a decrease in juvenile crime and new ideas about how to treat youth offenders in their communities. The question is: What do we do next in light of these trends?

The Wisconsin Council on Children and Families, Inc. is a non-profit organization that has been on the cutting edge of social change in Wisconsin since its inception in 1881. It has worked through the years to improve the delivery of health and human services in the state.WCCF has a statewide, volunteer board of directors which guides its work.
