BadgerCare Plus Resources
Access to quality health care is extremely important for all of us, but especially for growing and developing children. Research confirms that children with health insurance are more likely to obtain preventive care, to have a regular source of ongoing care, to do better in school, and to have better health outcomes than uninsured children.
Wisconsin has long been a national leader in providing innovative health care solutions for children and families. The BadgerCare Plus initiative, which began to be implemented on February 1, 2008, continues that leadership and takes a giant step toward providing health care coverage for every child in the state, while also significantly improving health care access for parents and pregnant women.
“This year … lawmakers from both parties came together to provide every single child the health care they need at a price their family can afford. And when the program is fully implemented, 98 percent of Wisconsin citizens will have access to affordable health insurance making Wisconsin America’s health care leader. Let’s keep leading the way.”
Governor Jim Doyle, State of the State Message, Jan. 23, 2008 |
On this webpage, we provide access to a number of WCCF publications summarizing BadgerCare Plus and links to useful information about the program on other websites. The resources available here are divided into two categories:
Information for Parents and Other Potential Participants – WCCF has prepared a couple of summary documents to help potential participants understand BadgerCare Plus, and we provide links to a number of other useful resources to help you determine if you are eligible, what you’re eligible for, and what the cost is.
Resources for Advocates and Policymakers – We have written a variety of papers that summarize and analyze BadgerCare Plus and are aimed primarily at advocates and policymakers. We also provide links to relevant material from the state and other organizations.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOR WISCONSIN FAMILIES
"In Their Own Words: Wisconsin Health Care Story Series." With assistance from Families USA and Wisconsin Citizen Action, WCCF collected the stories of uninsured Wisconsin residents. These stories highlight the importance of continuing to work toward the goal of making health care coverage available to everyone in the state (September 20, 2007).
Send us your story! Please share with us any stories about how BadgerCare Plus has helped your family or someone you know. We would also like to hear the stories of any families with children who, for one reason or another, haven’t been helped by BadgerCare Plus.
E-mail your story, or the story of someone you know.
