Over but not forgotten...

Second National Campaign for Youth Justice 5K Run Walk. Thanks Goes to Vicky Gunderson for organizing Wisconsin’s Second Campaign for Youth Justice Run/Walk for Youth Justice on Sunday, October 16 in Onalaska.  Approximately 60 community members participated in the run/walk and had the chance to learn more about why youth should not be held in adult jail/prison. The event, covered by WXOW in La Crosse, was also an opportunity for community members to remember Kirk Gunderson, Vicky’s son who at age 17 committed suicide while in the adult jail in La Crosse in 2006.  You can learn more about this important issue through the Campaign for Youth Justice.

A Great Start for Kids: A Wise Investment for Wisconsin on Tuesday, September 27th in Madison. WCCF held a public policy forum on the economic benefits of investing in early learning and examples of what works!

WisKids Count Community Conversations Around the State in September 2011. The Wisconsin Council on Children and Families, in collaboration with numerous organizations throughout state, hosted four community forums to focus on increasing awareness of how the well-being of children has been affected by the recession and to initiate conversation on what can be done to support success for children. WCCF Celebrated 130 Years of Advocating on Behalf of Children and Families. Wednesday, August 24 at Monona Terrace in Madison. Ken Taylor, Executive Director of WCCF & Anne Arnesen, Chair of the Then & Now Committee and guests shared in an evening celebrating 130 years of the Wisconsin Council on Children and Families on. WCCF Webcast on State Budget Issues. The Wisconsin Council on Children and Families hosted a webcast on Tuesday, April 12. In his presentation, Jon Peacock examined the portions of Gov. Walker’s proposed 2011-13 budget that affect children and families, with particular attention to the potential impact of cuts in health care, early education, and local aid, as well as changes in taxes and revenue.
