Harriet Meyer is the former President of the Ounce the Prevention Fund.

Rob Grunewald is an Associate Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, and the author of "Early Childhood Development: Economic Development with a High Public Return".

1. Educare: Narrowing the Gap in School Achievement. Presenters: -Carol Keintz , Executive Director, Next Door Foundation
-Nancy File, Associate Professor, Early Childhood Program, UW- Milwaukee -Martina Stevens, Educare Master Teacher.

This workshop describes Educare School of Milwaukee and its work with families and children to improve early learning and development. Educare is part of nationwide effort that prepares young, at-risk children for school; nurtures early learning and sends a bold message about the value of investing in the first five years. The workshop will discuss research findings on the impact of the program.

2. Improving School Readiness in Maryland: 10 Years of Progress
Presenter: Rolf Grafwallner, Assistant State Superintendent of the Division of Early Childhood Development, Maryland State Department of Education.

This workshop describes Maryland’s remarkable success in increasing school readiness, and the role of kindergarten entry assessments for all children. The school readiness assessment data serves as a powerful, tangible benchmark that has driven collaborative efforts to improve children’s early development and learning.

3. North Carolina’s Smart Start: A Robust Statewide System for
Early Childhood
.
Presenter: Gerry Cobb, former Director of the Smart Start National Technical Assistance Center and currently Director of the Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS) National Learning Network.

This workshop describes Smart Start, an award-winning effort to improve child care quality, preventive health care, and parent support services for young children and their families.. Smart Start has impressive results, with public/private partnerships across the state.
